I used to have a pitbull a while ago and now I have an american bulldog and I must say that the american bulldog has power and agility over that of any pitbull I have ever seen in my life. while I don’t agree with dog fighting I am curious as to which of these dogs would win in a fight if they…

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog. Read more here https://bitly.im/8JRfv
The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don’t achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren’t putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.
The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.
Some dogs love to fetch, others love agility, and other dogs simply love obedience training, or swimming out into water and retrieve. At least to start with find out what your dogs love is and help them develop this, what I am saying is work with your dog. The other point to recognize is to make training enjoyable reward your dog.

First off, I agree…if you are so against dog fighting, you wouldn’t have asked this question in the first place. Secondly, ‘pitbull’ refers to many types of dogs ranging from the American Pit Bull Terrier to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier so you have to specify on what type of pitbull you are reffering to. And to the person that said pitbulls are “naturally aggressive”, you need to be more clear on what you say to the people that have no experience with pitbulls. While they are known to be DA(dog aggressive), they are NEVER to be HA(human aggressive), all the HA dogs you see out there are because of byb(back yard breeding), poor socialization and just plain stupidity on the owners part.
Now back to the original question. Even though the American Bulldog and pitbull may be somewhat similar in size, it really depends on how much “game” the dog has. Does it give up after a while or does it never lose its drive at what it’s doing.

as you know American Buldogs are NOT the same as English Bulldogs.. the American ones are tough and scary (looking) but if you need a dog for protection and security – you should really look into getting a properly trained one – which could be any numebr of breeds (in fact Akitas are known to be amongst the loyalist, toughest dogs out there.) An untrained dangerous dog is a SERIOUS LIABILITY. It could escape harm a neighbour, a child, a postal carrier.. even YOU.. Get a properly trianed dog and prepare yourself to make the time and effort to train and properly socialize your dog.. otherwise, get an alarm system..

American Bulldogs may be larger and more physically powerful than any of the “pit bull” breeds, but the pit bull breeds have the natural dog aggression that would make them the victors in any fight. For pit bulls, DOG aggression is common and natural and makes fighting a self-rewarding activity. Pit bulls were orginally bred for a trait called “gameness” and it refers to the dog’s tendency to persevere despite adverse situations. Gameness was a desirable trait for the orginal bull baiting (working) pit bulls, but unfortunately was also desirable in the fighting ring, as it made the dogs more willing to fight each other to the death. American bulldogs, although often mistaken for pit bulls and lumped into the “bully breed” category, do not share the pit bulls’ fighting ancestry and therefore do not have the genetic characterisitics (i.e. dog aggression) that would make it a good fighting breed.
Side note: It is VERY important for pit bull owners to NEVER trust their bully not to fight and NEVER allow the first fight to occur!

I agree with the first answer as well, why are you even curious? But If you have to know, it all depends on the dog itself. APBT’s are a never give up always give 100% attitude, and Am. Bulldogs are to but only to a point. Alot of things have to do with it. So Id say its a 50-50 chance. But really you shouldnt be asking those kind of questions its kinda rediculous. 🙂

I would imagine the one with the most gameness. It is not about might but fight with the APBT, and no I don’t advocate fighting. I raised pits about 20 years ago, and I can tell you the dogs nowadays are of a different temperment than the old ones and it not for the better

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/NzvHv
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It’s important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Pitbulls are naturally aggressive? what the hell? No they aren’t. Only if you train them that way. If you don’t agree with dog fighting then why bother asking about it?
