Im not sure about spaces on a ruler but there are 2.54 cm to an inch so 2.3 inches = 5.482 cm
Im guessing your ruler is in cm therefore it is around 5 and a half spaces.

2.3 in = 2 inch plus a little less than 5 spaces ( about 1/4 of space less)

An inch on a ruler is devided into 16 spaces. So just multiply 16 x .3 sixteenths which equals 4.8 sixteenths, then add the 2 inches.
