The notion of dactylography is used as a synonym for typing. Both terms refer to the technique that develops at use a typewriter keyboard.
It is possible to distinguish between handwriting and the typewriting. In the first case, the person must make the strokes of the characters manually, using a pencil, a pen or a similar element. Typewriting, on the other hand, is carried out with a keyboard: Subject must press keys for characters to appear on paper or screen.
Typing, therefore, is linked to this second writing mechanism. For a long time the discipline was associated with typewriters, although over the years the technique came to be applied in computers (The computers).
The original typewriters were mechanical: when the person pressed a key, a mechanism was activated that printed the character on the paper through the ink that was applied on it. Then came electrical machines and later computers, with which characters appear on a screen by means of a digital system. The setting Of the keyboards, in this framework, it was not modified too much, for which the typewriting kept its essence.
The position of the hands, the location of the fingers on the keyboard and the body posture are some of the issues that typing analyzes to favor that an individual can write quickly and correctly without looking at the keys.
One of the benefits that typing has given us since its inception is the ability to write at a considerably higher speed than with the manual method, without affecting the clarity of the characters at all. This has always been very appropriate for corporate environments, where they must be stored documents into files for future review, not always by the people who created them.
It is important to note that there are currently several technologies that are used in combination with the basic notions of typing to enter text into a device electronic, and that not all of them are directly related or could replace this discipline completely. For example, the mouse is a peripheral used in computers mainly to interact with objects such as icons, elements of a form (such as buttons, drop-down lists and sliders) and windows; however, they can also be used to type on a virtual keyboard.
Although it is not normal to write a long text using the mouse exclusively, in certain contexts it can be very useful to increase the measures of security: when entering the control panel of a bank account, for example, it is common for an on-screen keyboard to appear to type our secret password, in order to combat automated control attempts by unauthorized users.
Typing is also complemented by voice recognition systems, which allow us to dictate words to the device so that it recognizes them and enters them wherever we want, be it a text document or a browser’s address bar; in this case we are facing a technology that you can perfectly dispense with the use of your hands for writing, and in fact many people with health problems take advantage of it, such as osteoarthritis.
The term typing, which is still used today as a synonym for typing in certain areas, actually became obsolete after these changes that were transforming this discipline and moving it further and further away from mechanical devices; for this reason, typing is now preferred.
