Double fertilization produces diploid sporophyte and triploid endosperm. (Ans. C)
Explanation:
Angiosperm is a plant known for its flowering plant in the world. The flower is a reproductive parts of the angiosperm plant. They cover 4 basic parts of the flower: Carpet, Stamens, Sepals and Petals.
During angiosperm plant reproduction, 2 structures are created called the Endosperm and Zygote. Later Zygote grows and forms an embryo and the endosperm is known to be the food source of plant embryos. The formation process of Endosperm and Zygote is called double fertilization and is a unique process found in angiosperms.
The steps involved in double fertilization are as follows:
1) Process the pollen tube to release 2 sperm cells into an infertile ovary.
2) When one sperm cell fuses the eggs with zygote formation and another sperm fuses with the 2 polar nuclei with the formation of the endosperm this process is called double fertilization.
3) Upon completion of double fertilization, fruit and seed develop.
