In order to understand the meaning of the term patrol, the first thing to do is determine its etymological origin. In this sense, we can establish that it derives from the French, exactly from a word of the XV century: “patrouiller”, which can be translated as “trample in the mud”.

The process and result of patrolling are known as patrolling. Patrolling, meanwhile, consists of travel a certain area, usually to prevent crimes or that events with negative consequences occur.

PatrollingFor instance: “Since the mayor ordered the night patrol of the Costanera, crimes decreased by 21%”, “The patrolling of the border does not prevent illegal immigrants from entering our territory”, “I am going to take charge, together with Adrián’s father, to carry out patrols during the night so that the boys do not get out of control and the party takes place in peace”.

The usual thing is that the patrol is a decision of the authorities of the State to control a region. The policeman it is usually a security force that patrols the cities on a daily basis, with the aim of dissuading the will to commit crimes and to catch those who, in fact, have committed or are committing an offense.

In addition to all the above, we cannot forget the existence of different types of patrols, among which are the following:
-Patrolling on foot, which is the traditional and most normal method on a day-to-day basis.
-Mounted patrol, which is carried out by agents who are mounted on horseback.
-Motorized patrol, in which both cars and motorcycles are used.

In the case of Spain, the Police Force has the necessary infrastructure and resources to carry out patrols. Thus, for example, there are patrol cars that, as their name suggests, are intended to allow the relevant agents to be in charge of patrolling in the area assigned to them.

These vehicles are also identified by another series of characteristics, such as the following:
-They are in charge of helping and supporting what the police officers are in the daily missions they are entrusted with, such as carrying out the arrest of criminals, visiting witnesses, carrying out reports …
-In the same way, they are useful for responding to specific emergencies that may arise at any time. In these cases, they use sirens and adequate lights to be able to quickly reach the scene of the events.

The prefecture it is another force that usually develops patrols. In this case, by its own mission, the prefecture usually patrols the coastline to ensure the security in the water and on the beaches. Patrolling, in this way, is carried out with a boat.

Patrols are also frequent in the borders. A country It can order a patrol of its limits to prevent people from entering its territory without authorization and the necessary documents, as well as to prevent illegal goods from leaving the interior of the nation (contraband products, drugs, etc.).
