Even though the most northern part of Cuba is only about 90 miles from Florida, the U.S. is not allowed to fly over it, which requires them to fly around Cuba (along the eastern coast if I’m not mistaken) until getting to the south-southeastern part, (which is where GTMO is) in which they turn sharply to make the landing.
