Yes. Even though the most northern part of Cuba is only about 90 miles from Florida, the U.S. is not allowed to fly over it, which requires them to fly around Cuba (along the eastern coast if I’m not mistaken) until getting to the south-southeastern part, (which is where GTMO is) in which they turn sharply to make the landing. It’s nothing too crazy, but you can definitely tell when they are going to make the landing due to the turn.

I was watching an episode of criminal minds and there was one part where they were flying to Guantanamo Bay and they said the landing strip was perpendicular to Cuban airspace so pilots had to make a sharp aerial maneuver or something along those lines. They called it the “Gitmo Twist.”…
