The first thing we are going to do in order to discover the meaning of the term twins is to find out its etymological origin. In this case we can underline that it is a word that derives from Latin, exactly it comes from “gemellus”, which in turn comes from “geminus”, which can be translated as “born at the same time” or “double”.
When two animals or two Humans are born in a same delivery, especially if they originated from the fertilization of the same ovum, is about Twins.
Many times there is a confusion between the concept of twins and the notion of Twins. Twins are also siblings born in the same childbirth, but in this case the word is used specifically if the origin of both is in different ovules. That is to say: twins arise from the same ovum and twins, from different ovules.
The identical twins develop with division of a single zygote (arising from the union of the male gamete –sperm– and the female gamete –ovule–). The calls fraternal twinsInstead, they come from two zygotes.
It can thus be stated that identical twins are monozygotic twins. When cell division occurs, two cells are created that are genetically identical, but develop separately. This means that, after birth, individuals who are twins of this type have phenotypes very similar.
Do not overlook the existence of the film “The twins hit twice”, a comedy that was released in 1988 under the direction of Ivan Reitman. It tells the story of two twins who were the result of a “scientific project” and who have spent their entire lives apart and without knowing each other until they discover their origin and choose to see each other in person. Those characters are played by actors Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
It is precisely within the world of interpretation that we have famous twin brothers. These include James and Oliver Phelps, who play the brothers Fred and George Weasley in the “Harry Potter” saga, or Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. They rose to fame as babies and as an alternative to little Michelle Tanner in the television series “Forced Parents.”
Likewise, it must be established that there are many celebrities who have twins who are not famous like them. Among those are Scarlett Johansson, Vin Diesel, Ashton Kutcher, John Heder, Linda Hamilton, Nicholas Brendon, Kiefer Sutherland, Eva Green, Parker Posey, Shawn Ashmore, Joseph Fiennes …
The idea of twins also has other meanings. Twins are called muscles found in the calf, which allow flexion of the foot and lifting of the heel. The twins actually correspond to the same muscle (the Twin muscle or gastrocnemius), which is divided into two parts.
Twins, on the other hand, are the pins composed of two pieces linked through a chain or a stem used to close the cuff of a shirt; or the binocular glasses (similar to binoculars).
