Petit is a French term that can be translated as small. In our tongue, is usually used as an adjective with the same meaning, although the word is not accepted by the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE).
It is known as petit hotel to that edifice of XIX century or XVIII that, originally, it was not used as a permanent home by its owners. This construction, therefore, was only used during certain months, becoming the temporary accommodation of the family in question.
Nowadays, it is common to find a petit hotel converted into Museum, public entity or another type of institution. This is possible since it is about buildings of important dimensions according to the current parameters, which makes the qualifier of “Petit” seem like a contradiction in terms.
A petit four, on the other hand, is a small cake or one dough typical of the gastronomy of France. They can be salty or sweet and are usually served as an aperitif or to accompany the coffee.
There is a wide variety of petit fours, since currently each country usually makes them using local ingredients and according to their own recipes. Certain types of dry masses, wet masses, nibbles Y pepitos they can be included within the group of petit four.

Petit It is also the pseudonym of a Portuguese nationalized French footballer named Armando Teixeira and the last name of a former soccer player who became champion of the world with the selected one of France in 1998 (Emmanuel Petit).
