The shapes that modify a flat surface make up its relief. It can be elevations or depressions. It is known as Land relief, in this sense, to the changes that are evidenced on the surface of our planet, including those that are registered in the submarine bed.

Mountainous reliefIn the terrestrial relief it can be differentiated between the emerged relief (superficial) and the ocean relief (submerged). Within the first, you can recognize the mountainous relief, what is the surface modification provided by mountains.

The regions with mountainous relief, therefore, are composed of natural elevations of considerable height. They can count on mountain ranges, saws, volcanoes or other types of elevations.

Throughout the entire planet there are many areas with notable mountainous reliefs, however, among the most significant are the following:
-The Andes. A mountain range located in the south of America is this. Specifically, it is located between the countries of Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Peru and Ecuador. It has an average height of 4,000 meters high and its highest point is Aconcagua, with 6,960 meters above sea level.
-Himalayas. In Asia, among the countries of China, Bhutan, India and Nepal, this other mountain range is located, which is the highest on Earth and has Everest (8,848 meters) as its most important and highest point. To all this, we must add that the source of some of the most important rivers on the planet takes place, such as the Ganges, the Brahmaputra or the Yangtze.
-Rocky Mountains. In North America, specifically in the western area, is where we can find this other mountainous group, which was formed during the Cenozoic orogenesis and whose most relevant peak is Mount Elbert, which is located in Colorado and reaches 4,401 meters Tall.

In addition to these important areas within the mountainous relief of the planet, there are also other equally significant ones, such as the Alps, which are in central Europe and whose highest summit is MontBlanc (4,810 meters), and the Pyrenees, that are to the north of the Iberian Peninsula.

The mountainous relief can be used for the development of certain economic activities, but it also represents a limit or a barrier for others. If the mountains are high and receive frequent snowfall, the mountainous relief may allow you to create ski resorts and take advantage of the mountains to promote tourism wintry.

In a mountainous area, however, infrastructure development is complex. In general, these are not areas where there are large urban agglomerations, since the building in a mountainous relief it is complicated. On the other hand, on the highest mountain peaks, the climatic conditions are usually extreme.

The French commune of Chamonix Mont Blanc it’s a example of region with mountainous relief. This town is next to the Mont Blanc, a mountain whose height exceeds 4,800 meters above sea level.
