Mandate, from Latin mandātum, is he precept wave order that a superior gives to his subjects. It is a provision, a resolution or a pattern that who is located at the top of a hierarchy indicates those who are located below. For instance: “I come here at the command of my boss to look for the documents”, “I received a mandate to pick you up and take you to the office”, “Juan was fired for not complying with the manager’s mandates”.

MandateA command is also the order given to a device or machine to carry out a certain operation: “I already entered the command in the system, now it remains to wait for it to complete the calculation and return the result”.

Another use of command is linked to the representation or faculty awarded to a public official after an election. The mandate is the period in which a subject serves as agent: “During my mandate more than a million jobs were created”, “Next month the term of the president ends and everything is ready for the replacement”, “The mayor could not complete his mandate due to the outbreak of a social revolt”.

In the field of right, the mandate is a consensual contract through which one of the parties (the principal) entrusts its personal representation or the management of its business to the other party (the leader). The agent, therefore, takes charge of the matters on behalf of the principal.

In this case, we would have to establish that there are clearly several types of mandates, among which we would highlight these:
• Based on what is the effect of those, they can be classified into with representation or without representation.
• If, on the contrary, the criterion taken into consideration is the object on which the mandate revolves, we would find ourselves with the special mandate or the general mandate.
• Third, if we proceed to carry out a classification based on whether the agent is acting on behalf of the principal or his own, we would have the mandate for another’s account and for his own account.

Within this type of mandate, it is important to bear in mind that the two parties involved have their corresponding obligations when signing them. Thus, for example, the principal undertakes to pay the remuneration that has been agreed or to pay the expenses generated by the other.

For his part, the president counts among his duties to carry out the actions that have been agreed, to personally execute the mandate and not relegate it to a third party, and also to render accounts of his actions before the principal.

It is also important to know that there are various causes that may lead to ending the mandate. Among them are the one that the stipulated term has expired, that there has been a breach of what was agreed by one of the two parties or that the business on which the mandate revolved has been concluded.

For the religion, the mandate was the name of the rite of the Catholic liturgy celebrated at the evening mass of the Holy Thursday and consisting of washing the feet of twelve men, recalling what was done by Christ with the twelve apostles during the Last Supper.
