With etymological origin in Latin radius, lightning is, in its broadest sense, that line that is born in the place where a certain kind of Energy and it spreads in the direction where it spreads.
Lightning, therefore, can be the brightness that comes from Sun. For instance: “The sun’s rays came directly to his face, making him feel the heat”, “I need glasses: the sun’s rays bother me to drive”, “It is not good to expose yourself to the sun’s rays during the middle of the day”.
It is known as lightning, on the other hand, to the electric shock that occurs naturally between clouds or that starts from a cloud and reaches the earth’s surface. In this sense, it is often used as a synonym for flash of lightning (the glow generated by the discharge in the heaven): “Have you seen that lightning bolt? We better go home. “, “Lightning struck down a tree, which fell on a car”, “When there are lightning strikes, it is best to take shelter to avoid accidents”.
The type of electricity released by natural lightning in a thunderstorm is called static, and is generated when an excessive electrical charge accumulates in an area with little conductivity, which encourages the discharge to be postponed until it is very strong. In addition, the lightning generates what is known as electromagnetic pulse, a very intense emission of electromagnetic energy that takes place in a very short period of time.
The concept flash of lightning, which is often confused with lightning, refers to the light that is perceived during this phenomenon, and its cause is the presence of an electric current that causes the ionization of air molecules. On the other hand, there is the Thunder, that is, the noise that is heard when seeing lightning, as a result of the shock wave; the air expands and heats up very quickly due to the passage of electric current through the atmosphere, and this generates the sound of thunder.
It is possible to distinguish between positive rays and negative; the former, considerably rarer than the latter, extract electrons from the earth’s surface and transport them skyward, reaching much higher levels of energy and intensity, as many as hundreds of times those possible during a negative lightning strike.
On the other hand, they are known by the name of super rays those that contain an extremely high energy charge and are produced with a frequency two million times lower than normal. The distance that one of these electric monsters can reach is also much larger than that of a normal lightning bolt: the longest ever recorded measured approximately 190 kilometers, while the usual is 1.5.
While people are often very afraid of lightning during thunderstorms, fatalities or serious injuries are very rare, as are those from plane crashes. In fact, for lightning to make contact with a human being does not necessarily imply death of the latter, but can cause possible burns to heal. The greatest danger is electrocution, and the collateral damage it leaves on our nervous system, which can range from sleep disturbances to the nullification of entire brain regions.
In a wheel, the rays are those pieces that join the center with the perimeter: “When I fell, the spokes on the front wheel broke”, “My bike has silver spokes”.
The notion of lightning bolt can also be used to qualify an individual who demonstrates a great mental speed, resulting witty and ingenious: “This boy is a thunderbolt, sometimes he surprises me with his answers”, “The president is fascinated with the young minister, whom he defines as lightning for his ability to reach agreements with different social sectors”.
