Among the various meanings of the term resistance its meaning is found as the ability to bear or tolerate something. If we focus on the physical capacity of people, we can understand endurance as the possibility of making an effort for a period of time as long as possible.
It is possible, in this sense, to distinguish between aerobic resistance and the anaerobic resistance. The aerobic resistance It is the ability of a human being to carry out an effort of medium or light intensity in an extended time. The anaerobic resistance, instead, it refers to the ability to exert very strenuous effort for a short time.
Lack of oxygen
The notion of anaerobiosis refers to life that develops in an environment that lacks oxygen. In the case of physical activity that a human being can carry out, we speak of anaerobic resistance when, due to the fact that the effort that takes place is so intense, the individual cannot take in the amount of oxygen that he or she needs. In this way, the effort ends up being done with a lack of oxygen.
If it is interesting to know that during anaerobic resistance exercise the athlete in question starts with a heart rate of 180 beats per minute, it is also interesting to know that there are two different types of that resistance:
-Alactic: This term is used to refer to explosive-type activities and efforts that also have a short duration, specifically, they do not usually last more than 16 seconds. During these it must be stated that the amount of oxygen is practically zero. This category can include, for example, the 30-meter sprint races.
-Lactic: Under this other concept is framed a class of anaerobic resistance that is defined because the efforts usually have a maximum duration of 3 minutes. To this should be added that during the same the body of the athlete in question what it does is generate waste substances, which is known as lactic acid, which are responsible for causing fatigue.
Limits of anaerobic resistance
Experts claim that anaerobic exercises cannot be performed for more than three minutes. There are efforts that, given the great intensity, can barely be maintained for a maximum of fifteen seconds, since the oxygen level is almost zero. Others, on the other hand, can be sustained up to three minutes.
Athletes who specialize in the hundred meter races, for example, they need to train primarily their anaerobic endurance. This is because they need to be at their best in just a few seconds. Instead, those who run marathons should work on their aerobic endurance: the effort is less intense, but longer in the weather.
Sport and training
In addition to all the above, we must highlight another important series of aspects related to anaerobic resistance such as these:
-Examples of exercises that qualify as such are sprinting, weightlifting, jumping in the various athletics events …
-Although, as a general rule, athletes during their training focus more on one type of resistance or another, aerobic or anaerobic, it is recommended that in these sessions they combine both. Why? Because in this way they will not only improve their performance in the discipline they practice but also achieve a better state of health.
