We are going to start by letting you know the etymological origin of the term to testify that it does not occupy. In this case, we can say that it derives from Latin. And it is the result of the sum of three components of that language:
-The prefix “ad-”, which is synonymous with “towards”.
-The noun “testis”, which is equivalent to “witness”.
-The verb “facere”, which can be translated as “do”.
The verb witness refers to making a statement in the capacity of witness. A witness, on the other hand, is one who has certain knowledge of a matter by having direct contact with it.
For instance: “Yesterday I received a summons from the court: I must go to testify next Tuesday on the subject of the robbery at my neighbor’s house”, “If a journalist summons me, I am willing to testify against the governor since I have evidence of his responsibility in acts of corruption”, “The lawyer made a call to the community to testify so that all citizens help clarify the case”.
In a trial it is important that the person who is going to testify does so in compliance with a series of recommendations, among which the following stand out:
-You have to go to the appointment with a clean image and according to the situation.
-You will have to wait outside the room, as a general rule, and when you are called you must enter following the instructions of the official in question to place yourself where you are instructed.
-It is essential that you tell the whole truth about the matter in question. If you don’t, you would be committing a crime and that could have legal consequences.
-You must look at the judge or the lawyer asking the questions at all times.
-It is important to answer clearly and bluntly as well as with politeness and respect.
In the same way, we have to establish the existence of witnesses to a wedding. What they must do is attest that the people who have decided to marry do so of their own free will and without any impediments that establish that this link does not comply with the law.
The idea witness is also associated with observe or record something. In this case, testifying is equivalent to becoming a witness: “Thanks to an invitation from the tournament organizers, I was able to witness the crowning of the champion team”, “The famous reporter will arrive in the city tomorrow to witness the demonstration”, “After witnessing the signing of the contract, the clerk withdrew from the office”.
The action witness also consists of provide evidence on a subject whose veracity or existence was doubtful. When testifying, the subject makes a testimony with a certain forcefulness that allows the confirmation of data on the problem in question: “The work of the investigators allowed to witness the presence of Asian drug traffickers in the neighborhood”, “I have the objective of witnessing that the activity of this company pollutes the river”, “The prosecutor could not testify to the fact and the accused was released”.
