In Latin it is where we can establish that the etymological origin of the term menudo that we are dealing with now is found. Specifically, it should be noted that it emanates from the word “minutus”, which can be translated as “small”, “reduced” or even “insignificant”.
The notion of often is used to refer to that of small size. The adjective it can be used with reference to a human or an animal.
For example: “The suspect is a small man in his 40s, with short black hair and a tattoo on his neck.”, “As a child I was very small, but in adolescence I grew up suddenly”, “My neighbor found a puppy that seems to be lost: it is a small dog that has a green collar”.
Menudo is also used for emphasize something: “What a problem you have generated for me!”, “The striker withdrew injured from the field of play after receiving a frequent blow”, “What a scare the old man got when he entered his home and ran into a young man sleeping on the sofa”.
The expression often, meanwhile, makes it possible to refer to what is repeated with frequency or is it habitual: “I often wake up early and go to see the sunrise on the beach”, “With my girlfriend we usually go to the movies often”, “There are writers who change their pseudonym often”.
In the kitchen, the petite (also called offal or giblets) are the viscera of birds that can be eaten. The liver, the heart and the gizzard, in this framework, are small.
To the stew that is prepared with pieces of cow stomach is known as “menudo” in some regions. Beyond its different versions, this dish it has names like Tripe, calluses or guatitas, depending on the geographical area.
In Latin American countries this dish is also known as ‘pancita’. What’s more, in some of these it is considered the best thing to do to get rid of a hangover.
The first mention of this dish we have to establish that it dates from the 15th century. Specifically, it was cited in the work “El Arte Cisoria”, which was published in 1423 and is the work of the Castilian nobleman Enrique de Villena, master of the Order of Calatrava.
In the same way, we cannot forget about the television series “Menudo es mi padre”. This was a comedy that aired in Spain, specifically on the Antena 3 channel, during the years 1996 and 1998. It starred the singer El Fary and revolved around the life of the character he played, a taxi driver, and his family .
Other actors who were part of the cast were Daniel Guzmán, María Garralón, Julián González or Miguel Rellán, among others.
In addition, we must also highlight the program ‘Menudo es mi pueblo’, which was broadcast in 2017-2018 on TV-Aragón and which allowed to know in depth some of the most significant towns of less than 5,000 inhabitants that this autonomous community has.
