From Latin internus, internal is an adjective that can be used as a synonym for inside. Is about what is on the inside or does not have views to the outside. For example: “Nicolás bought an internal apartment in the Courts area”, “This modern looking computer has very old internal components”, “He spends his days secluded in a dark internal room”.
The concept of internal is also linked to what occurs within territorial limits of a country: “On this occasion, the enemy is not outside: internal confrontations are the cause of our weakness”, “The government aims to strengthen internal trade”.
Internal is also what is felt in the soul or the spirit (as opposed to physical): “I feel an indescribable internal pain”, “The problem is internal, I can not be well with myself”.
However, there are many other uses of the term at hand. Thus, for example, we would have to highlight the existence of what is known as the inner ear, which is the cavity found within the temporal bone. The transformation of noise into sound is the action that takes place within this place, which is divided into two clearly differentiated parts: the membranous labyrinth and the bony labyrinth.
Another term that must also be emphasized, as it is used with some frequency in a more colloquial language, is “fuero interna”. This we can say that it comes to exercise as a synonym of conscience. Hence it is used in phrases such as this: “Juan in his heart knew that he had not acted correctly in his relationship with Eva.”
Similarly, we cannot ignore what is called the inner core. This is a word that is used within the field of science to refer to that sphere that is located in what is the center of the Earth. Gold or mercury are some of the elements that are considered that could make up this area, however, those that are known for sure that reside in it are iron and nickel.
The student residing within an educational establishment is known as internal: “My daughter is an intern in a school for nuns”, “For ten years I was an intern at Colegio San Carlos”.
The resident doctor and the medical student serving in a clinic are also internal: “Jorge is an intern at the hospital that is in front of the station”, “Next month I enter as an intern to work with Dr. Martínez”.
In some countries, the term internal allows to name the inmates who remain locked up in prison: “The inmates of ward five have serious behavior problems”, “The inmate López was benefited with job opportunities since he has shown a good disposition with the authorities”.
Finally, we are going to highlight what is known as Internal Law, which is frequently opposed to what is International Law. And it is that what is in charge is to regulate the relations that are established between the State and its institutions with the citizens or with each other.
