Chrysanthemum Cultivation (Shevanti) Guide:
Chrysanthemum Cultivation
Chrysanthemum Cultivation:- Chrysanthemum is one of the world’s most important flower crops grown commercially. This flower produces more fruit under greenhouse conditions. In India, the commercial cultivation of this flower is in good demand. This flower has different names in different zones of India; it is known as Guldaudi in the Hindi belt, Chandramalika in the eastern states, Samanti in the southern states and Shevanti in the western states. The chrysanthemum belongs to the family “Asteracea” and genus “Chrysanthemum L.”. Basically this flower is native to Europe and Asia. Chrysanthemums can be grown in a greenhouse, poly house, shade net, pots, containers and even a backyard. Chrysanthemum flowers are mainly used to make garland, religious offerings and as a cut flower for party arrangements. When it comes to the botanical description of chrysanthemum plants, the chrysanthemum species have a shallow root system with a herbaceous perennial nature growing about 50 cm – 150 cm in height, with deeply lobed leaves and large, yellow, pink or white flower heads . As the demand of flowers is very high in India, proper planning should be done to get the flowers in the market especially in weddings and festival seasons.
Plant Description
These fall varieties are easy to grow and their basic requirements are sun, rich soil, and plenty of air flow.
Chrysanthemum plants are considered perennial herbaceous (non-woody) plants that grow in a clumping or clumping manner. They are often grown as annuals in cooler climates due to their longer flowering times. The plants will grow 1 to 3 feet tall with many stems. The leaves are green to dark green and lobed. The oils from the leaves can sometimes be a skin irritant to humans. The flowers will range in size and shape from 1 to 6 inches in diameter.
Potting Soil & Compost
As the saying goes, you are what you eat, and the same can be true for plants. So if you are serious about growing great chrysanthemums, you need to make sure they are properly nourished.
This means getting the soil average just right too. There are many types of soil and compost to use here, so it can be difficult to know the best type of soil to use at the right time if you are trying to figure things out for the first time.

Common diseases that affect chrysanthemums include leaf spot and powdery mildew. Common pests and insects that can kill or injure entire chrysanthemum crops are aphids, leafhoppers and spider mites, among others.
